Sonic Mania’s release date has been delayed at the very last minute.
The Sonic Mania release date has been pushed back to August 29, as the development team works on further optimisations.
However, the good news for Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One owners is that the release date delay only applies to the PC version of the retro platform game.
Sonic Mania will still have an August 15 release date on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One.
The news was revealed during a Sonic Mania live stream, where a spokesperson confirmed that the PC version required a little more work.
To make up for the delay, anybody who pre-orders Sonic Mania PC before August 15 will receive a Steam key for the original Sonic the Hedgehog.
The same applies for PC owners of the Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition.
The Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition features a download code for the game, a metallic collector’s card, a collector’s box and a model of a Mega Drive cartridge with a golden ring.
It also comes with a 12-inch statue of Sonic on a Mega Drive, complete with an audio surprise for fans of the original games.
Sonic Mania pays homage to the 16-bit Sonic games. It features remixes of classic levels like the Green Hill Zone, plus brand new stages.
And it’s not the only Sonic the Hedgehog game launching this year.
Sonic Team is making a brand new 3D platformer called Sonic Forces for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch.
Similar to Sonic Generations, the game combines classic 2D Sonic levels with frantic 3D stages.
There’s even a third mode in which players can customise characters with weapons and abilities.
Sonic Forces has a late 2017 release date for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
