Dying Light Getting a Standalone Battle Royale Expansion

A standalone, Battle Royale-inspired Dying Light expansion will be released in 2018, Techland announced today.

Called Dying Light: Bad Blood, the multiplayer expansion features “PvP and PvE styles of gameplay, while retaining the core of Dying Light’s unique experience,” according to Techland. In the new mode, each match begins with six players being dropped into a “zombie-infested area.” The goal is to collect enough zombie blood samples to earn a spot on the extraction helicopter “before the night falls.”

In order to evacuate, players have to harvest blood from fallen zombies, which is then used to pay for a seat on the chopper. Players are encouraged to work together at first, as “the more samples the players harvest collectively, the more seats are unlocked.” However, seats are purchased individually, which, in theory, will make for a chaotic race to the end as players without enough blood attempt to steal samples from others.

A global playtest for the expansion will take place “soon” on Steam. Signups are now open on Techland’s website.

Dying Light was released in early 2015. A story-based expansion, The Following, was later released in February 2016. IGN’s Dying Light review called the base game a “fast, hyper-violent celebration of vertical freedom and zombie destruction.”
